End of Year Gala Day Results
Great way to end the season!
Gala day started at Killara - on fields which were very small and we had never been to before. The first game was late, and there was no opposition. I managed to find the other Coach (Mt Colah), but he only had 3 players. We decided to have a kick around anyway - rather than have the boys get some fun and practice - It was called a Forfeit. By the time the game started Mt Colah actually had enough for a team, so I left all our 7 boys on the field and I refed - (I'd not refed a game like this all season!). I didn't want to have to substitute for a muck-around game.
The boys didn't play that well this game and we would have lost on corners. I've noticed that the boys seem to have more energy earlier in the morning and lose a bit of concentration during lunch hours.
Second game was better - against Wahroonga 7C's which we had played once during the year. Another tough game, and there were no goals and equal on corners at half time. Second half was pretty much the same but we won on corners.
Third game was against Gordon, and they were a good little team. Bye the end of the first half we were playing really well, but down 1 goal and 2 corners. Second half we equalised the goal and got ahead with corners right near the end. It was very excited - I'm sure know one though we would win that one! There was some confusion as to the rules about who was the winner and we almost went ahead with 5 minutes extra time, but checking the rules you can win by corners and no extra time required. The boys where playing much better - all of them putting in a huge effort. Special mention to Hudson for playing so well!
We made it to the final - so it was off to Lane Cove - Blackmans park at 4pm. It was becoming a huge day - and everyone was enjoying it. The final was against Highfield Family Soccer club. The were a great little team and straight away put us under pressure. Matthew did a great job in goals and held them out - yet them had a few corners. We got a corner or two back and it equalled again. Second half Luke went into goals and did some great goals. Alen was passing, Anthony was too, Hudson almost scored. Michael had a good run and Matthew even had a shot at goal. We just couldn't break them, and didn't have enough time and we are happy with runners up for the Gala Day.
The presentation was nice - all the boys being awarded with penants. They were all so tired and not disappointed at all - they showed that they were all great sports! Again they all made me proud - we had a fantastic year.

Mark
