What a Team!
Firstly, today's game showed that we are a team. There was communication, passing, planning - and all of this from our loved 7 years olds! A very special game indeed!
The game started with Michael in goals - and what a game he had. Lots of great saves - one that almost roled in but he grabbed it at the last moment. I saw such HUGE smiles on Michael - he was validly very happy with his performance.
St Ives had a few good players who knew how to run the ball, but our defense was just too good.
It wasn't long until we had a run away ball and Anthony snuck one in. Bailey did some great runs - getting around players and kept going - it was beautiful to watch.
Hudson was trying so hard - getting into the action and pushing the ball through, and I saw him turning and finding someone to pass to (I'm so proud!).
Matthew was playing the blocking position, being a stopper - He was stopping everything. Some good clearing kicks too.
Luke had a great game - passing and perfect throw in's. Corner kicks too - he had a great game.
The boys had possession of the ball for most of the first half, playing as a team, and Anthony showed skill in defense and attack and scored 4? times. A loose defense in front of the goal let one go for St Ives. 4-1 half time.
The second half, Hudson went in goals, and only got a few touches of the ball - and managed to save them all. Anthony and Bailey had a few close misses, and one off the post Luke got in! Well done Luke!
And then a very special goal to Anthony - he was so skillful and perfectly timed - he earned the man of the match! Congratulations Anthony! A great match!
Thanks to Harry for the 7E's for doing some substituting and showing some great skills before his team game. Thanks to Marty for Ref'ing second half, and Debbie (Michael's mum for the shirts and oranges). Thanks for Andrew (Anthony's dad) voluntering for the shirts and oranges next week.
Next week we'll have to find some more subs - as Michael can't play and we'll be one man down. I'll check out the draw and see who we can approach. (Thanks to Marty for organising Harry).
The rules where made clear that we can get subs from any team (any grade) in our year, or lower years at the beginning of the season for this non-competitive season. I do think it's important for me to let the team play as a team as much as possible and have substitutes on a 'need to' basis.
Alen - we miss you - you are a vital part of the team and we are all looking forward to you coming back. Hope you are having a great time overseas!
Marty has informed me that they can't make it on the long weekend 10/6/06 so we'll need a Ref and another player. Ref'ing is not hard - and if I could I would, but someone else has to. We have a few weeks to find one - please approach me.
I really enjoyed today's game - it's all about team work, not the score, and it's getting better each week.
Regards,
Mark
